A native of South Bend, Gabrielle spent much of her childhood exploring her many interests. She began playing the drums at six years old, playing in her local church. Recognizing her aptitude, her parents placed her in classical piano training, which she did for eight years. This experience gave her greater understanding of musical theory which she applied to the bass guitar and acoustic guitar, self-teaching for several of years.
Gabrielle attended Saint Mary's College, pursuing majors in Philosophy and Communication with minors in Theatre Production and Film. During her college years, she discovered more passions, and she became heavily involved with the theatre program as a stage manager and set design aid. She interned at the South Bend Civic Theatre and WNIT, working professionally as a freelance videographer for the studio during her senior year. While working in the theatre department and being a full-time student, she also served as the music director at her church, growing her musically and in leadership.
During her junior year of college, she came into contact with Uzima, and picked up the djembe as a supporting drummer. However, she saw other ways in which she could contribute to the group, and stepped into a more primary role. She has served as the music director for the group since that point, also utilizing her organizational skills to help build the infrastructure and professionalism of the group.
Upon graduation, Gabrielle was accepted into the Orr Fellowship, a prestigious two-year program that places recent graduates in Indianapolis-based companies that are committed to mentoring promising graduates. Through this program, she was placed as an Operations Specialist at a tech-startup called TMap, a new company founded by Angie's List co-founder Bill Oesterle. One of four employees, Gabrielle is able to have a hand in every part of establishing and growing the business.
Fortunately, Gabrielle is able to come back to South Bend frequently, maintaining heavy involvement with the company. In addition to organizational and musical support, her most recent project for the group has been the branding and marketing, revamping social media and web presence for the group. She looks forward to continuing to grow with the group.
